Sony is commencing work on the cinematic Spider-Man spinoffs like Venom starring Tom Hardy and Silver & Black. With Tom Holland’s Spider-Man already existing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, fans were wondering if Sony’s Marvel characters would be joining as well. Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige mentioned that Venom won’t be in the MCU. But now we have word from Sony’s Amy Pascal that Sony’s Spider-Man spinoffs will coexist in the same universe.
“Both movies will now take place in the world that we are creating for Peter Parker,” Pascal tells FilmStarts. “They’ll be adjuncts to it, they may be different locations, but it will still all be in the same world. And they will be connected to each other as well.”
So does that mean fans will get to see Tom Holland’s Peter Parker appear in the Spider-Man spinoffs, Venom or Silver & Black? Pascal is hopeful about it.
“There’s always a chance,” she said. “I think one of the things that Kevin has done with Marvel that’s so brilliant, is bringing the fans along and making each movie feel like a chapter in a book. That you have to read that chapter in order to go forward. And I think the investment that fans get to feel in being part of a larger story and understanding what’s happening… is something that I know Sony would want to emulate.”
Venom is coming to theaters in 2018, with Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) set to direct and Tom Hardy starring as Eddie Brock. Here’s what Feige previously said about Venom’s involvement in the MCU.
“For now, there is no plan for Venom in the MCU. It’s a Sony project,” Feige tells AlloCine.
It’s probably just the wording with Marvel Studios focusing on its own characters. If Tom Holland’s character does appear in Venom, then it’ll confirm that the MCU and Sony’s Marvel universe exist in the same universe. Here’s another way to think about the situation. Feige doesn’t have plans to include the Netflix/Marvel heroes and Agents of SHIELD in the MCU. But they do exist in the same universe if you’re talking to Marvel Television.
However, in that same interview with Pascal, Feige can be seen with a look of confusion and displeasure.

Hmm…
We’ll have to wait and see if Feige will agree with Pascal’s statement. One thing is for sure, many fans are hopeful for Sony’s Marvel films to exist in the MCU.
Silver & Black will follow both Silver Sable and Black Cat with Gina Prince-Blythewood as director. (She is the director of Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger pilot.)
Sony’s Spider-Man spinoffs will be coming later. But fans can check out the next Sony and Marvel Studios film with Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Synopsis: Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, young Peter Parker (Tom Holland) returns home to live with his Aunt May. Under the watchful eye of mentor Tony Stark, Parker starts to embrace his newfound identity as Spider-Man. Peter must soon put his powers to the test when the evil Vulture emerges to threaten everything that he holds dear.
Jon Watts is directing the film from a screenplay by Jonathan M. Goldstein & John Francis Daley and Watts & Christopher Ford and Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers. It stars Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Zendaya, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Tyne Daly, Bokeem Woodbine, Marisa Tomei, and Robert Downey Jr.
