With the announcement of Peter Capaldi’s departure as the Doctor at the end of the year, there have been many speculations on who the next Doctor should be. David Tennant, known for playing the Tenth Doctor and fan favorite, gave his opinion to Radio 4’s The World at One on the next casting choice, his Broadchurch co-star, Olivia Colman.
“Olivia would clearly be a magnificent choice. If you have the right people telling the right stories then it’s absolutely a possibility,” said Tennant.
Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall will take over as showrunner next year. He has worked with Colman previously calling her a “writer’s dream.” It could be possible. Tennant joked, “If the two of them have been having top secret discussions behind my back I will be furious.”
Colman is no stranger to the Doctor Who world. She played the mother in the episode The Eleventh Hour and lent her voice to the audio book version The Forgotten Amy. She also played herself in The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot.
Colman could be seen next in the third season of Broadchurch which airs early this year and is currently filming Kenneth Branagh’s Murder on the Orient Express. She recently won this year’s Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress in a Series, Miniseries or Television Film for AMC’s The Night Manager.
