As most fans know, there’s a huge war going on between the Inhumans and the X-Men right now in the aptly named Inhumans vs X-Men event. And, as per usual, there will be a whole new batch of titles coming out in the wake of this story line. This ResurreXion, which it’s been called, will see the release of brand new X-Men books, the flagship titles being X-Men Blue and X-Men Gold. Regarding the latter, it will reportedly involve a more classic brand of action, protagonists and villains. This will lead the way for the return of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.

“We’re going to introduce new incarnations of Pyro and Avalanche,” writer Marc Guggenheim said in an interview with Newsarama. “Longtime readers of the X-Men know that both of those characters are dead, but [series editor] Daniel Ketchum and I have great affection for those characters, those power sets and those particular threats. So we’ve got a new Avalanche and a new Pyro coming our way.”

This ‘classic’ approach will please those who are fans of the traditional X-Men in a time when there are now dozens of mutants who are, or have been, on the team. The comic book will include favorites like Colossus, Kitty Pryde, Nightcrawler, Rachel Grey, Storm and Wolverine, albeit in his Old Man Logan form. As well, the style of Adrian Syaf’s art work is said to resemble how the books looked back in the day when action was equally as important as melodrama.

Referring to this decision, Guggenheim said, “a lot is that the best X-Men books, the classic X-Men books, are the ones where there’s a certain amount of superheroics and action, but the books really live in the ‘soap opera’ elements.”

Hopefully, this new book will help simplify what’s become a fairly convoluted brand. The first issue of X-Men Gold is scheduled for an April release.
