Titanfall 2 Pre-Alpha patch update for weekend 2

tf2fist

EA Community Manager Mat Everett released the patch notes for the Titanfall 2 Pre-Alpha Patch for the second test weekend. The game will need to be updated on your PS4 and XB1 to begin playing this weekend and the upcoming changes will be noticable. Let’s take a peek at what they are and how they can affect/influence the gameplay:

TIME TO KILL

  • Amped Weapons Boost now unlocks at 80% of the earn meter instead of 50%.
  • Charge Rifles now have damage falloff at cross map distances.
  • Slightly increased cloak visibility for other Pilots.

Looking at the changes above, it’s clear that the Amped Weapons Boost is a critical element in PVP. Being able to boost up your weapon damage can help you gain the upper hand with effects of the boost being immediate. The Charge Rifle falloff damage is a welcome one. Being an instant shot with maximum damage, added the falloff will prevent being picked off from large distances and actually give you a chance to fight back. And lastly, the increase cloak visibility may just make it easier to notice when someone is cloaked, but seeing as it’s almost rather difficult to see non cloaked pilots in your general area, this may not make a difference.

MOBILITY

  • Increased max wall-running speed.
  • Increased base wall-running speed and air speed.
  • Increased acceleration while jumping off walls.
  • Titans dashes recharge 2 seconds faster.

The four additions in regards to mobility are a welcome one. Running on walls felt slow and sluggish as did moving around the air and jumping from wall to wall. It’s not know what the increase it up to, but it should help be more agile when facing a Titan head on. The Titan dash recharge can be both good and bad. Seeing it from both side, the pilot of the Titan can be more active and aggressive with it’s boost while on the receiving end it may be more difficult to outrun or dodge a Titan. We shall see.

TITAN TIMER

  • Pilots now earn a small amount of Titan meter every 5 seconds.

Everyone loves piloting a Titan, even if it’s just for a few seconds before being destroyed. But in some matches, gaining enough of the Titan meter can be difficult with some matches being possible to play without calling a Titan. It can be a buzz kill when playing a game with giant mechs and not doing well enough to summon one. The small amount may not be enough to fully charge during the match, but at least that tiny bit can be enough to summon your Titan at least once.

BOUNTY HUNT

  • Score Limit lowered to 5000 from 6000 to increase the amount of games won by score instead of time.
  • Banking phases now last 45 seconds instead of a minute.

Two main changes to Bounty Hunt. Lowering the goal is meant to have matches win by score rather than time. Many matches I’ve played ended with time running out, and both teams a few hairs shy of 6000. The 5000 goal will remedy this and make the match more dramatic in the last few minutes of gameplay. Also decreasing the Banking phase will add to the suspense of losing funds before reaching the bank. Should be a nice touch.

TECHNICAL FIXES

  • Fixed some issues with the outer deadzone on PlayStation controllers.
  • We wanted to note and apologize for “Invite Friends” still being broken in this build. We needed to get the patch to certification quickly to ensure gameplay changes could make it in for this weekend, so we couldn’t get to this in time.

Now, I’m not certain what this deadzone is on PlayStation controllers is. I haven’t had any issues at all during gameplay. But its safe to say if you’ve experienced it during a game on your PS4, it should be remedied. Also, Invite Friends is apparently broken, but our Editor in Chief John found a work around for all you PS4 players. Simply create a new network and have all your friends join the same network. Once you have your pilots and Titan’s all set up, you can join a match as a network where all players currently in the network will be prompted to join. Once in, you will be able to play as a group. Just don’t forget to press Triangle!

AMPED HAPPY HOUR EVENT
Lastly we will be offering players the chance to receive this callsign for launch when you play the Amped Happy Hour event this Saturday. All you need to do is play between the hours of 9-10am PT/5-6pm GMT or 4-5pm PT Saturday/12-1am GMT Sunday and you’ll get this exclusive callsign when Titanfall 2 releases on October 28.

Seems like a lot of fun changes are being made. It’s almost certain that these changes will be entirely different once Titanfall 2 comes out. Until then, see you on the battlefield!
