While I’ve never found myself playing the Pokémon Trading Card Game at a high competitive level like many of my friends, it’s always been a game that I’ve had fun playing since its initial release in 1998. For a bunch of us kids in high school who were bored of Magic: The Gathering, it was something different and fun, especially since we were already huge fans of the cartoon series and the video games.
While the Trading Card Game has evolved over the last decade and a half, with new strategies, new Pokémon, and trainer cards, players have loads of fun building a team around their favorite Pokémon. It may not help you win any huge tournaments, but, alongside friends, more importantly, it can be something fun that anyone can get into.
It’s been awhile since I’ve done any TCG openings, and thanks to The Pokémon Company, we have a chance to take a look at what’s inside of the Elite Trainer Box and the Mythical Pokémon Collection—Shaymin. With these boxes, I’ll be looking to get my deck ready for the 2016 Pokémon World Championships happening later this month in San Fransisco, as I look to play casually with other attendees there.
I mentioned it in the video, but it’s just pure fun to crack open a pack and see what you pull, which is only the start of working on your deck. The moment I pulled out that cute Flareon Holo rare was actually a great moment, just because it’s just so adorable. You may have also noticed the release of Pokémon Red Championship Edition Nendoroid, so stay tuned for that review!
What type of deck do you run? Let us know in the comments below!
