Comedy fans rejoice! Two of the most consistently entertaining comedies on television are set to crossover this fall. Fox announced on Monday at the Television Critics Association press tour that two of its most critically acclaimed comedies, New Girl and Brooklyn Nine Nine, will be airing a crossover episode this fall. The one-hour event will air on October 11th and begin with a Brooklyn Nine-Nine episode at 8pm and continue on with a New Girl episode at 8:30pm.
While crossovers are often viewed as shameless ratings ploys (Blackout Thursday, anyone?), I am confident that showrunners Elizabeth Meriweather (New Girl) and Dan Goor (Brooklyn Nine Nine) will find a way to make this event both hilarious and true to their respective shows. The comedic sensibilities of the two shows are very much in alignment, toeing fine line between slapstick absurdism and emotional character development.
New seasons of Brooklyn Nine-Nne and New Girl both premiere on Tuesday, Sept. 20 on Fox.
