Knott’s Scary Farm 2016 is ready to rumble

Halloween is right around the corner! Well, kind of. Basically, I’ve already started celebrating it. One of the things I like to do to help get myself in the mood for the holiday, is checking out really spooky events. One of the very first awesome things I got to do was check out the preview event for all the new, cool, and spooky stuff at Knott’s Scary Farm this year!

Let’s get straight into all the spicy details. Here’s what you need to know, what the improvements have to offer, some comparisons, and I’ll make a note to let you know which events I’m super looking forward too!

First things first, they talked about the two annual shows they hold every year. One is put on by Elvira, which is super cool and freaky. I love her a lot, so it’s always really great to see what she’s put her mind too every year. The other was their phenomenal show known as The Hanging.

Two years ago, The Hanging was one of my  favorite things about visiting the park. It’s a great comedy show that pokes fun at all the stuff currently going on in the pop culture world. This year they’re calling it, The Hanging: Find Gory! And the tagline? Just keep killing.. just keep killing. I’m really looking forward to seeing this!

After that, they got straight into the mazes. Most are hit and miss, and sometimes they can feel a bit dragged on and can take you out of the moment. However, I feel like they’ve made some massive improvements this year in comparison to previously, so I’m curious to see how they will implement their new ideas.

Here’s the title of the maze and brief summary of what each one will be like:

The Tooth Fairy is the first maze they announced, and the trailer was really creepy. The theme of the attraction is in the title. Everyone hates the dentist, and it’s creepy to think about a lady coming into your room at night when you’re a child and taking your teeth, is it not?

The Gunslinger’s Grave has been around for a bit now, but this year they decided to bring it back with a twist. Bringing werewolves into the mix, the creators have put a supernatural entity into the storyline making it even more interesting than before. I personally really enjoyed this maze last time I went! (Before it had werewolves.) I’m mega curious as to how they will make the wolves look.

Voodoo: Order of the Serpent looks so, so cool. I never really see any intense stuff like this around Halloween time anymore. I think it’s about time they shined some light on how creepy and dark the swamps of Louisiana can get. There are no walls in this maze, and you’re basically walking through an entire ecosystem! We follow the story Marie Laveau, a famous practitioner of voodoo magic. (Check out the third season of American Horror Story for that!) This maze is the one I’m most excited about!

The Trick or Treat maze is taking us all the way back to classic Halloween. And who doesn’t love that? “At our events we lose sight of the holiday itself. This brings us back,” says one of the creators on the panel. The theme of the maze seems to do just that, with it’s spooky witch base, and all of her tricksters!

Paranormal Inc – The Haunting of Hayden Hill maze is all about paranormal investigations. These guys are trying to find concrete, scientific evidence to find life after death. Will they? The cool thing about this maze, is that it really hits you with a dose of reality because the theme is based on a true story. Check it out!

This maze I believe is going to be the one I refuse to go in, because we all have our limits and I don’t mess with the paranormal!

The Dead of Winter: Wendigos Revenge is being brought back from last year. The ice queen is dead because her beasts and minions have ripped her apart. Meaning, this maze is going to be more gory and darker than it has ever been! There’s a new facade, four new rooms, and it’s face to face action. Plus, it’s all based on Canadian folklore which is awesome! I’m excited to see how this one will end up, and I really like the fantasy aspect of it.

Now, we’re on to skeleton keys!

Skeletons keys are exclusive parts to the mazes that let you live through a little bit of the story. They’re 100% worth it, and honestly, give you a whole new experience to the parks. You get unlimited access to all the mazes with the key, and one time access to brand new interactive rooms.

For the room called, Visions, they’re using AR technology to bring the story to life, and gives you insight to the “green” witch trials.

Slasher brings you back to the 80’s and gives you a feel for original slasher horror films. Actually, it’ll be like you’re right in the middle of it all. They’ve taken the concept of this room and added escape rooms elements to it. Will you be able to escape, or be added to the list of victims?

Zozo is really dark, and was based on someone’s personal horror story. Zozo is a demonic entity that was spoken to via ouija board. Eventually that person began to wake up from really dark and demonic dreams. That was the inspiration behind this room, and you’re going to be sitting around a ouija board with other guests trying to contact Zozo himself. Look up the story!

Prey is a hay maze that focuses on mutant beasts following you around. The coolest idea for this room/maze is the fact that you’re going to be completely in the dark. Your path is controlled, and the only light you have is a lantern given to you. I think that’s such a cool concept to have for a room, and I’ve never seen it done before so I’m really looking forward to it!

In terms of brand new things for 2016, we have four things I’m going to go over briefly.

Special Ops Infected has been changed to Black Ops Infected, and is my absolute favorite part of the entire park. It used to be a ticketed event, and you would enter Camp Snoopy with a team to take out zombies and make it out alive. This year, they’ve taken out the ticketing system, and have created an entire backstage city for us to run around in and shoot some zombies. It’s bigger, better, and I’m so, so excited

Next, we have Shadow Land: Live by the Sword, Die by the Sword, which is a story that focuses on Japanese folklore. A fallen warrior who was not honorable is trying to regain honor through death. We follow his path in doing so. Japanese folklore is so amazing, and has so many cool twists, creatures, and places to explore. I believe this is what’s going to take the trophy for me this year.

The Red Barn is what is says it is. But wait, there’s a twist. A family of hillbillies is trying to kill you the entire time. If you enter this 1970’s grind horror fest, you’re not leaving. There’s going to be demonic pigs, gross stuff everywhere, and a lot of damn hillbillies.

Last but certainly not least, they’re opening an entire new scare zone called The Hallows. Watch your back because there’s 6 acres worth of things trying to scare you, and make you wish you could go home. It takes place in a forest, and kind of reminded me of a mix of The Strangers and The Hallow. (Both horror movies you must watch!)

Overall, this year seems to be stepping up the game a WHOLE lot. I won’t know for sure how great things will be until I get there, but I have high hopes for 2016. They brought so many cool things and elements to the table, Knott’s isn’t going to disappoint this year. So please, go check it out! And come be scared with us!

What’re you looking forward to the most this year?
