Not since Tom Holland’s outstanding performance have fans been more excited to see Spider-Man on the big screen again. Many moviegoers cringe to think about the incoherent The Amazing Spider-Man 2, or the rarely mentioned and mostly forgotten third installment to the Toby McGuire saga, Spider-Man 3 (ahem, emo Spider-Man). But now, with his incredible onscreen presence made known in the Summer blockbuster film, Captain America: Civil War, Tom Holland and his team are preparing for what is gearing up to be a Spidey flick like we’ve never seen before! And to add a bit of sugar on that, we now know what one of the key roles will be…
According to TheWrap, Zendaya, the 19-year-old known for her roles on the Disney Channel, has been revealed to be portraying one of Peter Parker’s most sought after love interests, Mary Jane Watson. That’s right, we finally have our M.J. figured out. There has been wide-spread speculation about whom the actress would play, but nothing had been solidified until what the outlet reports as “two individuals with knowledge of the project” revealed.
Fans will remember previous iterations of the character being portrayed on the silver screen, such as Kirsten Dunst in Sam Raimi’s Spidey trilogy, as well as Shailene Woodley in the deleted scenes of the most recent 2014 film, The Amazing Spider-Man 2. No other details have been provided about her character, or whether the performance she’ll be giving will be the romantic lead opposite Holland, so we’ll have to keep our eyes peeled and our ears to the ground.
