A portion of a 4cr interview with developer Springloaded...
4cr: What made you decide to develop the game as a Nintendo Switch exclusive? What lured you to develop for this hybrid console?
S: As mentioned earlier the game is focused on the unique features of the switch. I see a lot of ports coming to the switch, but we wanted to make something exclusively for it because of our excitement about the platform.
I think building something from the ground up for a console like the Switch is the only way to really make something that feels like a perfect fit for the hardware. We sat there with an empty slate looking at all the things that made the device special and started stretching our game in all directions to try and fill out the full spectrum of that feature set.
4cr: Now that the game is done and ready to go, what are you currently working on? Are you planning to release another game for the Nintendo Switch?
S: Now that Ultra Hyperball has been released, we are back to focusing on what to do next for the platform. We previously announced that we have six games up and running on the hardware, so it’s just a matter of time until they all come out. Our game “Gorsd” was announced during Bit Summit in Japan and we are really trying to finish up the single player mode of this game at the moment.
We are also bringing “Hiragana Pixel Party” to the console which was previously a steam game. While we know it’s a very niche title, I think the portability of the switch makes it the perfect fit for a game that tries to teach people how to read a language.
Beyond that, I think there are hints out there on the internet of what else we are working on, but for now, I think those two games are the ones you will see the soonest on the platform.
