Destiny 2 competitive trailer shows the insanity of Crucible

With its release less than a month away, the anticipation for Destiny 2 continues to grow exponentially. There’s high hopes for the next iteration of Bungie’s shooter, especially with how things started for the original title. Granted, over the course of a couple years they’ve managed to clean up and restructure Destiny (in a good way) away from its troubled “vanilla” beginnings. For a franchise that Bungie is stating to span 10 years, a shaky start never bodes well.

To quell any sort of skepticism for the upcoming Destiny 2, they’ve released a new trailer solely showcasing the competitive multiplayer known as the Crucible. I must say that it is a very satisfying video, as it’s 2 full minutes of actual gameplay with a quick focus on each of the game’s 3 character classes (Hunter, Titan, Warlock). For the classes, we get a glimpse of their special skills as well as super (ultimate skill).

In a change from Destiny, Bungie decided to focus more on 4v4 competitive multiplayer modes in Destiny 2 as opposed to the 6v6 they had prior. That’s not to say it won’t be there, but most playlists will primarily carry that format. For veteran Bungie fans this should feel right at home, as many of Halo‘s (1-3) multiplayer were 4v4 format. Aside from all the weapon goodness in the video, we also get a good look at the new Exotic Rifle called Coldheart. the interesting part about it, is that it’s a constant energy beam, different from any of the weapons we’ve seen so far. Also, anyone who preorders the game will have access to it.

Check out the trailer for yourself below.

I can’t wait to play through this game, not only for the multiplayer, but for the campaign as well. Supposedly there will be around 40hrs of gameplay, but it’s still unconfirmed. Let’s just hope it’s true. Until then, we’ll just have to wait for release.

Destiny 2 launches on September 6th for Xbox One and Playstation 4, and October 24th for PC.
