Gail Simone has written for DC Comics series like Batgirl, Birds of Prey, and of course, Wonder Woman. The Wonder Woman movie was a commercial and critical success, and it closely adapted the story of the Amazon princess. Last month, Simone had a bone to pick about a certain aspect of Wonder Woman’s origin story, specifically the New 52 version.
Wonder Woman’s New 52 origin inspired the origin story for the film. Well, let’s just say Simone thought it was a bad idea. Why? Because of the inclusion of Zeus as part of her birth. It all started when comic book writer D.M. Higgins tweeted the following:
Of the many reasons to hold a grudge against the New 52, the role of Zeus in Wonder Woman's birth is top of my list. It's now in the movie.

Simone replied with:
It really is a terrible shame. https://t.co/9bATtVL9nk

Simone is against it because it changed the roles of some of the characters and had less of a focus on motherhood:
It undoes a lot of vital threads. It changes Hippolyta, it makes Wonder Woman's origin about fatherhood, not motherhood, on and on. https://t.co/kR9vFsAhys

On the other hand, Simone still praised the film, along with the creative team behind the New 52 Wonder Woman.
All that said, man, I still love the Wonder Woman movie, holy crap. Cry every time.

So, for the record, love the WW movie, love @brianazzarello and @cliffchiang.

All respect to the creators involved, it was a constant pull to make Wonder Woman's book and story have more guys in it. Constant.

Of course, her opinion was met with supporters and critics. Some fans were okay with the new changes since they never liked the idea of Wonder Woman being created from clay. Others hated it because it changes her classic origin story, and since it’s a fictional world, being born from clay isn’t too far from being bit by a radioactive spider or being born from an alien planet.
