The live-action version of the 1992 Disney animated film Aladdin will be directed by Guy Ritchie (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking BarrelsRock’n’rolla), and today a casting call went out for some of the leads. The call was posted on Twitter (confirmed by THR) that Disney is looking for an actor and actress to play the roles of Aladdin and Princess Jasminel. They’re looking for actors who are between the ages of 18 and 25 who must be able to sing, with dancing skills as a plus. The call is for rehearsals to begin in April of this year, with the film shooting in the U.K. from July 2017 to January 2018.

John August (Big Fish) has penned the script for the film, which will, this casting announcement confirms, keep the musical elements of the 1992 film. Aladdin joins a long list of live-action remakes by Disney of their classic animated films, including CinderellaThe Jungle BookPete’s Dragon, the upcoming Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Mulan, Dumbo, and more. Aladdin was nominated for five Academy Awards and won two, including Best Original Score and Best Original Song for “A Whole New World.” The late Robin Williams played the Genie in the film.
