Three spooky films to fill your Halloween needs

Re-Animator 1

As a massive lover or all things horror and Halloween, I feel it’s time that the inner beast I contain until each season is unleashed. And yes, I understand it’s September! But as soon as the calendar marks September 1st, it’s time. So to start off the season, I thought I would share with you some movies to help you get into the spooky mood, if you’re not already there like I am.

I have this word I use for movies that I’m going to suggest, called spoopy-not spoopy. It’s a term I use for movies that have elements of horror, but aren’t really all that thriller. It’s actually my favorite genre of horror type films, as I’m more of a dark-minded person opposed to a jumpy, screamy person. You feel me?

Anyways, here are my top three Netflix spoopy-not spoopy movies you need to watch right now! Hurry, before I choose another three.

First up, Sweeney Todd.

sweeneytodd

A classic, honestly! If you haven’t already seen it, it’s a must. A horror mixed with a musical is anyone and everyone’s wet dream – right? Johnny Depp stars in the well-known film about a psychotic killing barber and his partner in crime’s human pies.

As you must know, Johnny Depp is such a pin point for classic films of Halloween. (Corpse Bride, Dark Shadows, Edward Scissorhands, the list goes on..) He and Tim Burton have put together an amazing bunch of movies, but Sweeney Todd was just put on Netflix and I had to let you know!

Next up, a classic. Re-Animator.

Re-Animator 2

If you’re not a fan of H.P. Lovecraft, then why not? Honestly. Such an iconic master of horror, am I right?

Director Stuart Gordon takes Lovecraft’s story and brings it to life in this fantastic, zombie-related movie. Although the movie doesn’t focus on what you would think the definition of zombies is, we are definitely bringing the dead back to life in this film. Herbert West, played by Jeffrey Combs, is a medical student attempting to bring his professor back from the dead. But oh my, there is so much more than that.

If you haven’t watched it yet, please do! And if you are a fan of the film just as much as I am, there’s time to watch it again!

Lastly, The Exorcist.

The Exorcist

We all know this film. We’ve all heard about this film. We all grew up fearing this film!

The Exorcist is an absolute staple of what horror is defined as today. It’s actually one of the most profitable horror movies ever made, according to Google. And it has every reason to be.

The classic story is about a little girl named Regan, played by Linda Blair, starts acting funny. In an act to try and figure out what the hell is going on, her mother tries everything she can to find an answer. At the end of her failure to find medical assistance, a priest, played by Jason Miller, assumes that Regan might be possessed.

Fun fact: I was scared to watch this until I was about 18 years old.

Anyways, the fantastic movie is on Netflix and it’s a must.

So, I’ve given you a horror-themed musical, a classic back from the dead film, and one of the most iconic horror movies ever made. What more do you want from me?! Go watch them all of Netflix right now!
