Jon Berg Responds to Ray Fisher’s Justice League Accusations

Earlier today, Ray Fisher rocked social media when he accused Joss Whedon of acting unprofessionally while making Justice League. Fisher, who starred as Victor Stone/Cyborg in the DC team-up vehicle, also name-checked producers Geoff Johns and Jon Berg for not doing anything to stop Whedon’s behavior. Now, Berg has responded to Fisher’s claims with a statement of his own (via SuperHeroHype).

While speaking with Variety, Berg refuted Fisher’s account. Berg claimed that it’s “categorically untrue that we enabled any unprofessional behavior” while Justice League was in production. However, Berg conceded that Fisher may have been unhappy with one particular request during filming.

“I remember [Fisher] being upset that we wanted him to say ‘Booyaa,’ which is a well known saying of Cyborg in the [Teen Titans] animated series,” said Berg.

The “animated series” that Berg is referring to is Cartoon Network’s Teen Titans and its follow-up series, Teen Titans Go! In the end, Whedon and the producers won out and Fisher did say the line in the finished film. Fisher’s latest statement came one day after he “forcefully” retracted his support for Whedon’s version of Justice League on Twitter.

Variety also notes that Whedon had no comment on Fisher’s remarks. Regardless, Whedon may not have a choice about addressing the controversy in the near future, especially with the premiere of his new HBO series, The Nevers, looming on the horizon. In the meantime, Johns, Warner Bros., and Fisher’s castmates have yet to weigh in.
