House Party remake in the works at New Line Cinema
It has been almost 29 years since the theatrical release of the fan favorite comedy House Party, and now Deadline brings word that New Line Cinema is in the process of developing a reboot of the 1990 film with Music Video director Calmatic signing on the project for his feature directorial debut. Calmatic gained recognition for directing Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus’s viral remix song “Old Town Road” which recently earned him his first MTV Video Music Award.
The remake will be written by Atlanta‘s Stephen Glover and Jamal Olori with NBA star LeBron James and Maverick Carter serving as producers through their SpringHill Entertainment banner. Spencer Beighley and Jamal Henderson will be overseeing the film in behalf of SpringHill.

The original film was directed by Reginald Hudlin and based on his award-winning student film. House Party followed the story of friends Play, Kid and Bilal, who throws a big party at Play’s house when his parents are gone on vacation. The film’s hip hop soundtrack led to becoming a cult classic. The original starred Christopher Reid, Christopher Martin, Robin Harris, Martin Lawrence and Tisha Campbell-Martin.
