The Little Mermaid Live! musical event set to premiere on ABC

In celebration of the upcoming 30th anniversary of one of Disney’s most iconic animated films The Little Mermaid, ABC has announced a brand new live musical event titled The Wonderful World of Disney Presents The Little Mermaid Live! as a special tribute to the classic Disney film.The musical event will be airing live on November 5 at 8-10 PM EST, exclusively on ABC.

The Little Mermaid Live! will feature live performances of Moana voice actress Auli’i Cravalho as the mermaid princess Ariel along with Academy Award-nominated actress Queen Latifah (Chicago, Hairspray, Life Support) as the villain Ursula and Grammy winner Shaggy as the voice of Sebastian.

This special tribute to the original animated classic and its timeless music will take viewers on a magical adventure under the sea as live musical performances by a star-studded cast will be interwoven into the broadcast of the original feature film.

This never-before-seen hybrid format will feature beautifully intricate sets and costumes, with music from the original animated film and the Tony Award(R)-winning Broadway stage version, originally composed by eight-time Oscar(R)-winning composer, Alan Menken. Howard Ashman’s iconic film lyrics will also be showcased, while lyricist for the Broadway adaptation, Glenn Slater, will contribute to the star-studded spectacular.

The Little Mermaid Live! will be executive produced by Done+Dusted’s Hamish Hamilton, Katy Mullan, David Jammy, Raj Kapoor and Ian Stewart with Hamilton also set as the director. Richard Kraft, who is known as the producer and director of the acclaimed Hollywood Bowl productions of The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast, will also be serving as an executive producer.
