Olivia Munn says Apocalypse team knew little about the X-Men

While Dark Phoenix, the final installment of Fox’s X-Men films, failed to resonate with critics or audiences, the franchise’s problems didn’t start there. In a video for GQ (Via The Playlist), X-Men: Apocalypse star Olivia Munn, who played Psylocke, answered questions from fans, and dished about how little director Bryan Singer and writer Simon Kinberg knew about the characters’ comic book counterparts when making the 2016 film.

When I was doing X-Men, I was actually surprised that the director and the writer didn’t even know that Psylocke had a twin brother,” said Munn. “And I had to talk to them about a lot of different things about Psylocke and some other parts of the world that they didn’t even know, and that, as a fan, was very frustrating.

Granted, Singer helped launched the X-Men films back in 2000, paving the way for today’s superhero-saturated market, and both he and Kinberg have collaborated on several of the series’ high points — as well as some of its lesser entries. Regardless, the X-Men are all headed to the MCU at some point, which tends to flaunt its fondness for the comic books that inspired its characters and stories.
