Director confirms September start for Back-To-Back Halloween Sequels

Last year’s sequel/reboot of Halloween made waves at the box office, and now co-writer/director David Gordon Green has weighed in on the importance of Michael Myers as a cinematic icon, and how he’ll continue on the path he and co-writer Danny McBride started with two upcoming sequels, Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends.

While speaking with Collider, Green confirmed that the two movies will shoot back-to-back and begin production in September. He alsodetailed his approach in tackling a beloved character in an established horror franchise and building on the world they’ve already built for Blumhouse.

It’s just a continuation of it. It’s telling the story, moving forward,” Green said. “It’s not another reinvention or anything like that. It’s this world that we’ve established, and then it continues beyond the events of the first one.

Green also conceded that after their sequels are released to the public, someone else is bound to come along and add their own take to the horror franchise before long, even with the conclusive title “Halloween Ends.”

I think, ultimately, Michael Myers is such an iconic character that no one besides Carpenter is ever gonna have ownership over him. This will be our chance at the table to play with these characters, and I’m sure that, when we’re done, other people will come in and do the same thing, or have their own reinvention. Michael Myers is iconic enough to allow that, too. He’s like James Bond, where you can have different actors and different filmmakers. He represents something so simple and scary that he can be translated by lots of different people.”

Pick up the film that started it all over here.

Released last October to critical acclaim and huge box office success, 2018’s Halloween brought in over $250 million at the worldwide box office, making it the highest-grossing slasher film of all time. The film ignored all the previous continuity from its many sequels, instead opting to tell its own story free from the confines of the previous mythology.
