Bond 25: There’s a new 007 and her name is Lashana Lynch

It looks like there is a new 007 in town.

Don’t worry. James Bond is still James Bond, played by Daniel Craig. But, after his retirement from MI6, a new agent has assumed his old code name 007 and she’s played by Captain Marvel’s Lashana Lynch. According to the Daily Mail, Lynch will appear in what was described as a “popcorn-dropping moment” in the new Bond film.

According to the report, the film begins with Bond enjoying retirement in Jamaica, but is brought back by M (Ralph Fiennes) to deal with a new global problem. It is then Bond is introduced to his replacement.

A source told the Mail, ‘Bond, of course, is sexually attracted to the new female 007 and tries his usual seduction tricks, but is baffled when they don’t work on a brilliant, young black woman who basically rolls her eyes at him and has no interest in jumping into his bed. Well, certainly not at the beginning.”

Of course, we could trust that Phoebe Waller-Bridge (‘Fleabag’, ‘Killing Eve’) to write this character right. Waller-Bridge was hired to polish the script.

“There’s been a lot of talk about whether or not [the Bond franchise] is relevant now because of who he is and the way he treats women,” she told Deadline. “I think that’s bollocks. I think he’s absolutely relevant now. It has just got to grow. It has just got to evolve, and the important thing is that the film treats the women properly. He doesn’t have to. He needs to be true to this character.”

‘This is a Bond for the modern era who will appeal to a younger generation while sticking true to what we all expect in a Bond film,’ the source added. ‘There are spectacular chase sequences and fights, and Bond is still Bond but he’s having to learn to deal with the world of #MeToo.’

Bond 25 is expected to release in April of next year.
