YA Novel Replica To Be Adapted By To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before Filmmakers
The Hollywood Reporter has brought word that the producing and directing team behind Netflix’s hit adaptation of the teen rom-com novel To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before are reuniting to adapt the New York Times Bestseller Replica.

The film, based on the 2016 novel of the same name written by Lauren Oliver, follows a lonely teen named Gemma that is trapped visiting her workaholic dad in Florida. While there, she is able to reconnect with her childhood crush Jake. As the two spend time together, they see an explosion occur in the marshes and while investigating happen upon a girl desperately climbing on her boat in search of shelter. The girl, who looks identical to Gemma, claims to be from a secretive facility known as the Haven Institute and is an experiment known as a Replica, pulling Gemma and Jake into a twisty conspiracy.
The adaptation of the novel duology will be produced by Mark Kaplan and his ACE Entertainment banner and directed by Michael Fimognari, who currently are working together on the sequel to Netflix’s rom-com hit To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, on which Fimognari is making his directorial debut.
Oliver will pen the script for the adaptation of her novel, having previously worked with Kaplan on the 2017 film adaptation of her 2010 novel Before I Fall, which received generally positive reviews from critics and proved to be a modest box office hit.
“Lauren’s beautiful coming-of-age story about what it means to be human resonated with YA audiences across the globe, and blending this narrative with Michael’s experience in the genre space is exactly what we want to be doing at ACE,” Kaplan said in a statement. “We are excited to explore the ideas and themes that young people relate to and I can’t think of better people to tell this story with.”

Fimognari is best known for his work as a cinematographer, shooting nearly all of Mike Flanagan’s works including the acclaimed Netflix horror series The Haunting of Hill House and his upcoming Shining sequel Doctor Sleep for Warner Bros.
Production on Replica is set to begin early 2020.
