Kevin Hart gears up for Extreme Job at Universal

Comedian Kevin Hart is preparing to go undercover for the comedy Extreme Job from Universal Pictures. According to The Wrap, the film will be based on the South Korean hit of the same name about a group of narcotics detectives who use a fried chicken restaurant as a front to spy on an organized crime gang. The catch? The rundown restaurant suddenly becomes the most popular joint in town when the detectives’ chicken recipe becomes a hit.

The original film made over 14 times its budget with a $127 million box office haul in South Korea.

“Once ‘Extreme Job’ became such a phenomenon in Korea, we knew we had to partner up with powerhouses for the U.S. version,” CJ Entertainment producer Francis Chung said in a statement. “With Universal, Kevin Hart and Tracy Oliver on board, we know this project is in the savvy hands of hit-makers who turn films into cultural events.”

Hart will produce, and likely star in the comedy with Tracy Oliver (Girls Trip) set to adapt the screenplay. CJ Entertainment, the Korean entertainment conglomerate that made the original comedy, is developing and producing the English-language remake along with Hart’s HartBeat production banner.

Extreme Job will mark his second Korean-film remake following the currently-in-development dramedy Bye, Bye, Bye, also with Universal.
