During this year’s Warner Bros presentation, the studio came in with some big guns to wow the crowd at this year’s CinemaCon. We’re not talking about their DC films, though. We’re talking about literal big guns in the form of the kaiju. Although the same Godzilla: King of the Monsters footage was screened recently at WonderCon this year, it’s nice to see the footage is getting shown once again.
The clip begins with a battleship cruising through Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. Dr. Emma Russell (Vera Farmiga) and the organization she works for sees King Ghidorah frozen in ice. At this instant, she tells everyone to run as she hits the explosive detonator that’ll free King Ghidorah from his icy prison. All of a sudden, the soldiers and scientists, including Emma’s husband Mark (Kyle Chandler), start running as the ground starts falling apart around them.
As all the mayhem dies down, the scientists and soldiers look at the large hole in the ground. All you can see is a billow of electric smoke just covering the entire chasm. Dr. Russell hits a switch which turns on a sonic sound which awakens King Ghidorah. Through the billow of electric smoke, a spiky tail thrusts towards the sky. Suddenly, one head after the other starts to appear from the abyss.
You see just how massive King Ghidorah really is. All of a sudden, you see Ghidorah’s throat light up and the next thing you know, he dispenses all of that energy towards the soldiers on the ground. Madison Russell (Millie Bobby Brown) is worried that her father is dead because he was last seen running for his life in the area. Yet Dr. Russell holds back her daughter as she screams towards the ground from their helicopter.
Fortunately, Mark Russell is “safe” and sound in a bunker. Shortly thereafter, you see a glowing light coming towards them underneath the icy ground. Godzilla busts through the ground and looks ready for a fight. Without delay, King Ghidorah spreads his wings and signal that he’s not going to back down from the fight.
Afterward, we get a montage of random shots including Rodan rising from a volcano and a firey Rodan flying through the air. Another clip includes Mothra fighting Rodan in mid-air. Finally, we get to see Godzilla using his iconic atomic blast on King Ghidorah. Unfortunately, King Ghidorah dodges his attack and counterattacks with his electric blast.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters hits theaters on May 31st.
