Tekken 7 is a fighting game from developer Bandai Namco Studios that was released worldwide in 2017. The studio has been continuing to add new characters, with Negan from The Walking Dead being released last month. The game was at the center of a controversy involving the character of Lucky Chloe. It led to the game’s director and producer, Katsuhiro Harada, to joke about removing her from the North American release. Now Harada is back again, and he expressed how he is tired of trying to appease everyone so that there won’t be anyone who’s offended.
Harada has posted on Twitter to talk about how it’s challenging to come up with a character design since there will be people complaining that it’s going to be a stereotype. This was a response to a fan asking if Tekken would include a Viking warrior. He then goes on to joke about how everyone should just wear a plain t-shirt and jeans to avoid offending people.
I'd like to challenge such a theme design.
However, the time has come when the challenge is very difficult.

The individual (or culture) identity will become homogenized. Perhaps everyone around the world should just wear T-shirts and jeans. The shirts should be plain, with nothing on it. If there is a design, it could offend someone somewhere, right? (Continue)https://t.co/ZjBlLSpKos

Harada adds how he’s tired of trying to avoid offending people. “I’ve become quite tired of trying to avoid causing potential offense issues.” His fans who support him want him to ignore those since they say the critics aren’t really representing the whole consumer.

One supporter told him to just do what he wants to do. Harada replied, “Yeah, Ultimately I will choose what we want to do.” With that said, Harada has come to the conclusion that he and his team will do what they want. If they do come out with a Viking character, there might be a chance that a few people might take offense to it, but the internet can be very surprising with its response.
Yep thanks.
I got tons of reply about this. Don’t worry, we will do what we want.https://t.co/vx66KgClFL— Katsuhiro Harada (@Harada_TEKKEN) March 5, 2019
Tekken 7 is now available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and at the arcades. The game has sold over three million copies before its one-year anniversary.
