Ryan Reynolds posts John Candy tribute to Twitter
To mark the 25th anniversary of the death of legendary comedic actor John Candy, fellow Canadian Ryan Reynolds posted a moving tribute of the late actor. The memorial itself was a 105-second video that highlighted some of Candy’s most famous roles and catchphrases, including Stripes, Uncle Buck and Planes, Trains & Automobiles. Check it out below!

“It’s the 25th anniversary of John Candy’s passing. We cooked up a small tribute to a comedic genius and Canadian hero. If you haven’t seen much of his work, take a look at his films. He was a treasure,” the post read. Reynolds also thanked Candy’s two children, Chris Candy and Jen Candy, and topped it off with a Canadian flag emoji.
Candy was in Durango, Mexico filming the comedy Wagons East! when he was found dead of presumed myocardial infarction on March 4th, 1994. In addition to being a heavy smoker, the actor suffered from weight-related issues much of his life.
The actor’s career began in the early-1970s with an uncredited role in the series Cucumber. By the early 1980s, Candy’s career had taken off, with roles in TV and film including The Blues Brothers, National Lampoon’s Vacation, and of course his many roles on the variety program SCTV. His last role was as Sheriff “Bud” Boomer in Michael Moore’s satirical comedy Canadian Bacon, which was released a year after his passing.
