Netflix ‘doubling down’ on interactive series after Bandersnatch

Following their interactive Black Mirror movie Bandersnatch, Netflix is set to “double down” on interactive series and movies for the streaming service.

Speaking at  FICCI-Frames convention (via Variety), VP of product Todd Yellin said: “It’s a huge hit here in India, it’s a huge hit around the world, and we realized, wow, interactive storytelling is something we want to bet more on. We’re doubling down on that. So expect over the next year or two to see more interactive storytelling. And it won’t necessarily be science fiction, or it won’t necessarily be dark. It could be a wacky comedy. It could be a romance, where the audience gets to choose – should she go out with him or him.”

Bandersnatch premiered in late December of last year with a twisting narrative that had over five hours of footage for fans to watch and dissect. Netflix has previously played around with interactive storytelling in animated kids shows, such as the streamer’s Puss in Boots where the viewer can choose whether the feline fights a god or a tree. Bandersnatch was the first time Netflix attempted their choose-your-own-adventure model on a live-action program.

Dunkirk’s Fionn Whitehead starred in the movie alongside Will Poulter (The Revenant, Detroit) and Asim Chaudhry (People Just Do Nothing) which David Slade directed.
