The Hollywood Reporter has brought word that after a decade of tarnishing in developmental hell, the romantic comedy Desperados has finally hit the ground running with the casting additions of Saturday Night Live vet Nasim Pedrad, The Flash‘s Robbie Amell, Pitch Perfect‘s Anna Camp and The Chi‘s Jason Mitchell.

The film, written by Ellen Rapoport, follows a woman that finds a man she falls head over heels for after sleeping with but when he doesn’t return one of her phone calls, she sends him an angry and ranting email. However upon discovering that he’s in a coma in a Mexican hospital, she decides to grab her best friend and head south to try and delete the email before he can wake up and discover it.

Universal had originally acquired the script in 2009 and various stars and directors were attached, including Isla Fisher (The Beach Bum) in the lead role, but the film remained stuck in development as none of the crew ever stuck with the project long enough for it to finally start shooting. But Netflix has swooped in to save the day and has found an all-star cast and has attracted Funny or Die director Lauren Palmigiano, professionally known as LP, and is expected to begin shooting in April.

The film is set to be produced by Mason Novick for MXN Entertainment, John Finemore for Lost City and Good Universe along with Lost City’s James Hope and Elizabeth Grave executive producing and Brooke Davies co-producing the project.

Pedrad, who’s most notable for her five years on the NBC sketch series Saturday Night Live, has also starred in the hit Fox/Hulu sitcom The Mindy Project and the short-lived acclaimed TBS comedy People of Earth and will next be seen in the upcoming live-action adaptation of Disney’s 1992 classic Aladdin, which is set to hit theaters on May 24.

Camp rose to fame with her roles in the HBO vampire drama True Blood and the hit musical comedy trilogy Pitch Perfect and has also starred in the acclaimed 2016 romantic drama Cafe Society and the well-received yet short-lived Amazon period drama Good Girls Revolt.

Amell got his start with a small role in the poorly received 2005 family comedy Cheaper by the Dozen 2 before starring in the Nickelodeon teen sitcom True Jackson, VP and the Cartoon Network live-action adaptation of Scooby-Doo as Fred Jones. He would finally land his breakout roles on The CW with the lead role in the short-lived sci-fi drama The Tomorrow People and a recurring role in the superhero hit The Flash, going on to have guest appearances in the rebooted seasons of The X-Files, Netflix’s adaptation of the acclaimed book series Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events and starring in the streaming service’s sci-fi thriller ARQ.

The past five years have proven to be a dream come true for 32-year-old Mitchell, who found his breakout performance as deceased N.W.A. member/co-founder Eazy-E in the 2015 biopic Straight Outta Compton, for which he earned numerous award nominations, and went on to co-star in the hit comedy Keanu alongside Jordan Peele (Us) and Keegan-Michael Key (The Lion King), the Oscar-nominated Netflix drama Mudbound, the monster blockbuster Kong: Skull Island, the period crime drama Detroit and the acclaimed Showtime drama The Chi, which will debut its second season on April 7.
