CD Projekt Red has been developing Cyberpunk 2077 for many years with a teaser trailer released in January 2013. News has been absent for years until E3 2018 when the studio previewed an hour-long gameplay demo, eventually releasing gameplay footage to the public later that year. Today fans are treated with a new behind-the-scenes video for Cyberpunk 2077.
The video covers the game’s journey in the public eye from its announcement to its gameplay demo debut during E3 2018. The CD Projekt Red team also talks about experimenting, which made them hesitant to show off the game since it can be completely different from the final product. Other challenges include creating a massive world whether you’re in a car or on foot.
“It’s easy to make an open world that when you’re on foot, it feels huge, but if you’re in a car, it’s 10 minutes,” Level designer Miles Tost said. “One feels like a huge world and the other like a not so huge world. How do you balance that? How do you create that feeling of vastness? But those are the cool things when you challenge yourself to sort of push forward into new uncharted territory. You try to find new solutions to these problems.”
To add icing on the cake, The Witcher’s Geralt of Rivia voice actor Doug Cockle narrates the video.
CD Projekt Red will once again be making an appearance at E3 2019, and fans can expect to see more Cyberpunk 2077 goodness. As for when Cyberpunk 2077 will be coming out? Doug Cockle says, “It’s still coming… when it’s ready.”
Cyberpunk 2077 takes place in Night City, a dystopian world where you will get to create your own character named V. The first-person open world game is based on the 1988 tabletop game Cyberpunk 2020 from Mike Pondsmith. Composer Marcin Przybyłowicz, who worked on The Witcher 3, returns to create music for Cyberpunk 2077.
