Brie Larson has upset a lot of fans with her comments about there being too many white men at the press events, and this led to them giving Captain Marvel negative comments before the film’s release. The aggregated review site responded by disabling the audience comments section until the film is actually out. Now that the film is out, the audience score is now available with a 35% rating compared to the 81% critics rating as of this writing. Even with the controversy, the film is tracking to make a lot of money including being the top presales movie after Avengers: Infinity War and grossing over $20 million during its Thursday night previews.

According to Deadline, Captain Marvel start off with a bang during the Thursday night previews with an estimated $20 million to $24 million at the box office. If the final numbers are closer to $24 million, that means it will be just a bit under Batman v Superman‘s Thursday night take with $27.7 million back in March of 2016. It will also just be under Black Panther’s $25.2 million and Captain America: Civil War’s $25 million. That’s pretty impressive since Captain America: Civil War featured a huge roster of Marvel heroes. The movie is definitely looking to do great during the rest of the opening weekend.

If you’re watching Captain Marvel, be sure to stay until the very end for two end credits scenes, with the first scene giving you a taste of Avengers: Endgame and the second scene acting more as a fun gag.

Synopsis: The story follows Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races. Set in the 1990s, “Captain Marvel” is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The film is directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck and written by Boden, Fleck, Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Jac Schaeffer from a story by Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy), Joe Shrapnel, and Anna Waterhouse. It stars Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Ben Mendelsohn as Talos, Djimon Hounsou as Korath, Lee Pace as Ronan, Lashana Lynch as Maria Rambeau, Gemma Chan as Minn-Erva, Algenis Perez Soto as Att-Lass, Rune Temte as Bron-Char, McKenna Grace as young Carol Danvers, Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson and Jude Law as the Starforce Commander.

Captain Marvel flies into theaters on March 8, 2019.
