Efron has signed on to star as the leader of the “meddling kids” Mystery Incorporated, Fred Jones, and Seyfried has signed on to star as Fred’s romantic interest Daphne Blake, while previously cast Forte is set to voice Norville “Shaggy” Rogers, Rodriguez as Velma Dinkley and Morgan as Dick Dastardly.

The film, which is being entitled Scoob and is being written by Matt Lieberman (The Addams Family) and directed by Tony Cervone (Space Jam), will follow the mystery-solving group as they must team up with other characters from the Hanna-Barbera universe to save the world from supervillain Dick Dastardly.

Efron rose to fame in 2006 with a lead role in Disney Channel’s hit High School Musical franchise and has since found success with key roles in the 2014 comedy Neighbors and its 2016 sequel, the critically-derided but financially successful 2017 comedy Baywatch and the Oscar-nominated 2017 musical The Greatest Showman. He will next be seen in the upcoming comedy The Beach Bum alongside Matthew McConaughey, which is set to hit theaters on March 29, and Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, which is set to hit Netflix later this year.

Seyfried is most known for her roles in the 2008 musical Mamma Mia! and its 2018 sequel, the 2009 cult horror classic Jennifer’s Body co-starring Megan Fox and the 2011 sci-fi thriller In Time and was most recently seen in the Netflix sci-fi thriller Anon and the Amazon Studios dark comedy Gringo, as well as the Showtime revival of David Lynch’s acclaimed fantasy crime mystery series Twin Peaks.

The project, produced by Chris Columbus, Charles Roven and Allison Abbate, will bring back those pesky kids and their pal Scooby, all of whom were last seen on the big screen in 2004’s live action misfire Scooby-Doo 2: Monster’s Unleashed.

Scoob is expected to hit theaters on May 15, 2020.
