Oscars Sets 4 Categories to Be Presented on Commercial Breaks

Oscars Reverse Decision to Not Air 4 Categories

According to Deadline, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has reversed their decision to present four categories during the forthcoming Oscars’ commercial breaks. This comes after pushback to the original decision from film fans, Academy members and major filmmakers, including Guillermo del Toro, Quentin Tarantino and Martin Scorsese. Awards for cinematography, film editing, live-action short and makeup and hairstyling will still be broadcast in full during the show.

“The Academy has heard the feedback from its membership regarding the Oscar presentation of four awards – Cinematography, Film Editing, Live Action Short, and Makeup and Hairstyling,” the officers of the Academy’s board of governors said. “All Academy Awards will be presented without edits, in our traditional format. We look forward to Oscar Sunday, February 24.”

Earlier this year, it was confirmed that the forthcoming 91st Academy Awards will be airing without a host for the first time in 30 years. This was due to the controversial resignation of comedian-actor Kevin Hart from being this year’s host.

The Academy Awards have gone without a host only one time before, and before then, there were instances of big-named talent such as Bob Hope, Jack Lemmon, Rosalind Russell, and, of course, Donald Duck, sharing the duties. The last time more than three people hosted the event was in 1987 when Chevy Chase, Goldie Hawn, and Paul Hogan worked the stage together.

The 91st Oscars will be held on Sunday, February 24, at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood, and will be televised live by the ABC Television Network. The Oscars also will be televised live in more than 225 countries and territories worldwide.
