New Child’s Play reboot trailer features new version of Chucky

The reboot for Child’s Play is happening, and Orion Pictures has released the trailer for the upcoming film from director Lars Klevberg. The original ’80s film had supernatural elements where the serial killer Charles Lee Ray placed his spirit inside of a doll. In the new film, it looks like the doll goes on a killing spree thanks to technology instead of supernatural elements.

In the trailer, we get a bit of info about Kaslan, a company that makes consumer electronics including robot vacuum cleaners, speakers, and drones. As the company is talking about its new AI companion robotic toy, we hear Harry Nilsson’s “Best Friend” playing in the background. A boy named Andy (no relations to Andy in Toy Story) sees a promo video on TV, and soon his mom gives the new doll to him as a present. However, this Andy will wish that he never received his high-tech toy because it’s going to go on a killing spree in the neighborhood. The toy is pretty futuristic since there is a scene of Chucky scanning the boy.

The trailer does a really good job of hiding the killer doll’s face. However, an official photo was already released of Chucky with a knife covering half of his face. We decided to do some photoshop to see what would Chucky look like with his whole face.

He definitely has a new look compared to his original ’80s version, but both do give off an innocent yet creepy vibe.

The trailer ends with poor Aubrey Plaza tied up and looking very afraid. Will this new Chucky be sentient? Will a serial killer take over his body? Or is Kaslan an evil corporation looking to take over the world with killer toys? I guess we’ll find out soon enough.

The film is directed by Lars Klevberg from a screenplay by Tyler Burton Smith. It stars Aubrey Plaza (FX’s Legion) as Karen Barclay and Gabriel Bateman as Andy Barclay.

Child’s Play hits theaters on June 21, 2019.
