MODOK: Patton Oswalt teases his role in Marvel animated series

Last week, Marvel and Hulu announced they were teaming up for a quartet of animated series based on lesser-known Marvel characters, including Howard the Duck and Hit-Monkey. Last night, Patton Oswalt appeared on Late Night with Seth Myers to talk about his contribution, M.O.D.O.K., which centers on the Marvel supervillain of the same name.

I’m gonna be voicing him,” Oswalt said of the big-headed character. “He is a supervillain, he has superintelligence, he has a forehead beam, he has all this technology. But, he is not on the A-level of Doctor Doom and the Red Skull. So, not only does he hate all the heroes, he hates all the other villains because he’s so resentful. Getting to play that is going to be really fun.

M.O.D.O.K. is set around the character of the same name. He was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby back in 1967, and his name is an acronym for Mental/Mobile/Mechanized Organism Designed Only for Killing. The series will follow the titular supervillain with the really big head and really small body as he fights to keep control of his organization and his needy family.

As well as providing the voice, the series will be written and executive produced by Oswalt. Jordan Blum (Community) and Jeph Loeb (Legion) will also be executive producing. Oswalt has a history with comic book-inspired properties. He plays the Koenig clones on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., pulled double-duty as Uncle Ben and Chameleon in the recent Spider-Man animated series, and currently stars in the dark comedy Happy!
