Jason Reitman is directing the sequel to the original Ghostbusters films, and it enraged Leslie Jones because she felt that the 2016 reboot film didn’t matter. Well, the director has made a new comment that would set off more outrage, saying that he wanted to hand the upcoming movie back to the fans. As you can guess, it didn’t sit well with supporters of the reboot.
Reitman appeared on a recent episode of the Bill Burr’s Monday Morning Podcast and talked about his plans for the Ghostbusters sequel.
“This is going to be a love letter to Ghostbusters,” Reitman said. “I love this franchise. I grew up watching it. I consider myself the first Ghostbusters fan. I was like seven years old when that movie came out and I love it. I want to make a movie for my fellow Ghostbusters fans. We are, in every way, trying to go back to the original technique and hand the movie back to the fans.”
The comment looked innocent enough, but with the drama surrounding the harassment from the Ghostbusters reboot cast and director, it can be seen as being disrespectful. With that said, Sony did decide to go back to the originals since the Ghostbusters reboot didn’t meet expectations at the box office. Fans of the classic films are sure to be happy about Jason Reitman paying respects to the films that started it all.
Reitman did respond to his initial comment about how his comment came out wrong, with reboot director Paul Feig showing support.

According to reports, the third Ghostbusters film will follow teenagers, two boys and two girls, who become the newest members of the Ghostbusters team. It is going to be set in the same universe as the original films.
The film is to be directed by Jason Reitman, the son of original director Ivan Reitman, and written by Reitman and Gil Kenan. The Ghostbusters sequel is expected to begin principal photography in the summer of 2019 with a release date of July 10, 2020.
