Jumanji Sequel Welcomes Danny Glover to the Jungle

Jumanji sequel welcomes Danny Glover to the jungle

Sony’s Jumanji 3 continues to welcome Hollywood icons past and present to the jungle. Per The Hollywood Reporter, the film’s most recent addition is none other than Danny Glover, who joins Danny DeVito and Awkwafina — not to mention the original cast — in the anticipated sequel.

Glover, best known for his role as Sergeant Roger Murtaugh opposite Mel Gibson’s Martin Riggs in the popular Lethal Weapon franchise, as well as for his performances in films such as Witness and The Color Purple, has a slew of projects on his plate at the moment. Though, the Jumanji sequel might just be the highest profile gig he’s had since 2009’s disaster feature 2012.

“From Awkafina to Danny DeVito to now one of my action heroes, Danny Glover — it’s been awesome having so many actors and OG legends raise their hands wanting to come and play in our Jumanji universe,” Dwayne Johnson told the outlet. “‘Who turns into who?’ will always be the fun magic sauce for our audience.”

Johnson officially announced the release date for the Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle sequel via his Instagram, revealing that Jumanji 3 is set for December 13, 2019. The film will see the return of the main cast that includes Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, and Jack Black along with director Jake Kasdan. The December 13th date will also give the movie at least a week in theaters before Star Wars: Episode IX is released.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle brought in over $960 million worldwide, over 3.5x the worldwide gross of the original film from 1995, and became Sony’s highest-grossing domestic release of all time (just barely passing 2002’s Spider-Man). The film was #1 for four weekends, including three in a row and was the first December wide release to be #1 on a February weekend since Titanic in 1998.
