Jesse L. Martin returns to CW’s The Flash following a medical leave

Flash fans rejoice! The character Detective Joe West is returning to the show following actor Jesse L. Martin’s return from medical leave, according to TVLine.

The character last appeared in Episode 4 of Season 5 after which Martin suffered a back injury over the summer hiatus; an injury that forced him to film most of his scenes sitting down. Following that appearance, the actor took a medical leave. Now, he is back on set filming and will next be seen in Episode 15.

As for his onscreen absence, show runner Todd Helbing announced: “There’s an explanation, and then there’s another sort of thing down the line that will give more explanation as to why [Joe] was gone for so long.” He also added: “I’ll just say there’s some technology that S.T.A.R. Labs has [via which] he’s gone and he’s not gone at the same time.”

Cue mysterious music.

The Flash stars Grant Gustin as Barry Allen/The Flash, Candice Patton as Iris West, Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin Snow, Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramo, Hartley Sawyer as Ralph Dibny, Jessica Parker Kennedy as Nora West-Allen aka the speedster hero XS, Danielle Nicolet as Cecile Horton with Tom Cavanagh as Dr. Harrison Wells, and Jesse L.
