With Disney and Fox coming together, Disney and Marvel Studios will have access to characters from X-Men and Fantastic Four for upcoming films. Many fans are wondering if and when they’ll get to see these characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it looks like that can be very soon. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige revealed in Variety’s Playback Podcast that it could begin in the first half of 2019.
“We’ve been told it’s looking very, very good and could happen in the first six months of next year,” Feige says. “The notion of the characters coming back is great. It’s nice when a company that created all these characters can have access to all those characters. It’s unusual not to. But in terms of actually thinking about it and actually planning things, we haven’t started that yet.”
Things are moving along, with the Disney and Fox deal reportedly closing in late January. We still have Captain Marvel, Avengers: Endgame, and Spider-Man: Far From Home to look forward to. But not much is known about the projects after; however, we can guess that a sequel to Black Panther is in the works since the movie is the second-highest-grossing film in 2018 worldwide. Oh, and let’s not forget about reports of the Shang-Chi movie.
Will the events of Avengers: Endgame change the dynamic of the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Will characters like Iron Man, Captain America and Thor retire to give way to new heroes? It’s most likely the case, and it would be the perfect time for Feige to bring in characters from X-Men and Fantastic Four for the fourth phase.
In the meantime, Disney is working on bringing other MCU characters to its streaming service, Disney +, like Tom Hiddleston as Loki. Perhaps we’ll get to see less popular characters from the X-Men and Fantastic Four roster included as well.
