Plot synopsis for Jordan Peele’s Us revealed

It’s been assumed that Jordan Peele’s Us will be very much in the vein of Get Out‘s social thriller genre. Now, after the first round of test-screenings, /Film has confirmed what the overall story is about. The official synopsis for the film reads:

“A mother (Lupita Nyong’o) and a father (Winston Duke) take their kids to their beach house expecting to unplug and unwind with friends (including Elizabeth Moss). But as night descends, their serenity turns to tension and chaos when some shocking visitors arrive uninvited.”

While it doesn’t give anything away, it does read like a fairly common premise. However, this could give Peele ample opportunity to subvert expectations and ultimately surprise audiences when it’s released.

Us will star Nyong’o (Black Panther), Duke (Black Panther), Moss (The Handmaid’s Tale) along with Tim Heidecker (Ant-Man and the Wasp), Shahadi Wright Joseph (Hairspray Live!), Evan Alex (Mani), Madison Curry, Cali Sheldon, Noelle Sheldon (Friends), and more.

Get Out was a massive success for Universal and Peele in his directorial debut, earning over $255 million globally off a $4.5 million budget. The film also earned widespread praise from critics and audiences for its deft blend of comedy and horror, as well as its trenchant themes and subtle messages hidden throughout the film. It was nominated for four Academy Awards, with Peele winning for Best Original Screenplay, making him the first African-American writer to win the award.

Us will be written and directed by Peele and will also produce through his Monkeypaw Productions. The film is being produced by Sean McKittrick, Jason Blum and Monkeypaw’s Ian Cooper with Daniel Lupi to executive produce.

Peele is currently in talks to produce a remake of director Bernard Rose’s 1992 horror film adaptation, Candyman. He is also busy working on other projects including the comedy series Weird City for YouTube Premium; HBO’s Lovecraft Country and the CBS series remake of  The Twilight Zone.

Us hits theaters on March 15, 2019.
