In today’s smartphone market, there’s one trend that manufacturers strive for, and that’s a smartphone that has a bezel-less, edge-to-edge full display. Flagship phones such as the Pixel 3 XL, iPhone X, One Plus 6/6T, LG G7 ThinQ, and the Huawei P20 are all great phones in their own right, but each one suffers from the dreaded notch display. Over time users have ignored that small notch located at the top of their phones, and some even have a way of hiding it completely. But as we look forward to 2019, will manufacturers find a way to reach that holy grail of a full display or will it be a continuing trend? Huwaei sub-brand Honor phones have announced today a new flagship phone that might have completely done away with the notch.
The Honor V20 has been announced in China, and one noticeable difference that consumers will notice is that the phone is notch-less. Instead, you’ll find at the top-left-corner a small hole-punch that is intended for the front-facing camera. But besides the significant change in the display, the new V20 is packed with some surprising and powerful features.
The V20 will be powered with a Kirin 980 chip and a 4,000mAh battery. For the display, the V20 will get a 6.4-inch full HD+ with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The front-facing camera will have a 25-megapixel sensor with a f/2.0 aperture with fixed focus. The rear will sport an unbelievable 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 sensor with a f/1.8 aperture. It will support up to 960fps for smooth slow-motion video, autofocus, and AI HDR. The V20 will also feature a 3D ToF sensor that will be able to capture the depth in images, as well as slimming subjects in photos and creating 3D avatars of users.
The phone will be also built with Link Turbo technology, which allows the phone to switch between your data and Wi-Fi connections on its own, which will help keep your web browsing free from any buffering. On the connectivity side, you’ll get Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 with dual-band support, and USB Type-C. Gaming will also be highly recommended on the V20 as it comes with GPU 2.0 Technology support. Out of the box, the phone will come with dual-sim support and will run on Android 9.0 Pie which will be based on MagicUI 2.0.1, it will also come loaded with Honors intelligent Yoyo Virtual Assistant.
The Honor V20 will come in Charm Blue, Red, and Midnight colorways, with pre-orders beginning today, and shipping starting on December 28th. Unfortunately, the V20 is currently available only in China but will be launched Globally starting on January 22, 2019.
