Home Alone is a classic Christmas movie featuring Kevin McAllister as a kid trying to protect his family’s house from two burglars called the Wet Bandits. It all builds up to the final showdown as Kevin sets booby traps all over the house, causing the goons to be badly injured. Now fast-forward 28 years later, and we have Google Assistant helping adult Kevin with his household chores and tricking the Wet Bandits.
The Google advertisement brings back Macaulay Culkin, and it’s a retelling of the story with a 38-year-old Kevin. Memorable scenes are reimagined with Google Assistant helping him out like turning off the furnace, ordering pizza, and setting up silhouettes to trick Harry and Marv of the Wet Bandits. Fans of John Williams will hear a bit of the Home Alone score with Brenda Lee’s “Rockin Around the Christmas Tree” playing in most of the ad.
Home Alone is one of the top Google searches every year for the holidays. In addition to the ad, Google Assistant will have Easter eggs from the film for a limited time if you ask it certain questions.
To start the Home Alone geekery, say “Hey Google…” and the following:
- “Did I forget something?” – Google will respond with dialogue about packing underwear, a toothbrush and Kevin’s mom shouting “KEVINNNNN!”
- “How much do I owe you?” or “It’s me Snakes. I got the stuff,” – Google will act out those scenes including playing an audio clip from the fictional film, “Angels with Filthy Souls,” with the classic line, “Keep the change, you filthy animal.”
- “The Wet Bandits are here” – Google will play Kevin’s line, “This is my house. I have to defend it.”
- “I’m the man of the house” – Google Assistant will remind you about showering, hitting all your major crevices, using adult shampoo, and picking up the toothbrush.
Home Alone is available on Google Play.
