*SPOILER WARNING*

The Aquaman movie ends with Arthur as the newly-crowned king of Atlantis, even though he’s still very much a fish out of water. James Wan told us how he thinks Arthur will adapt to that newfound responsibility.

“I think he would adapt in the way Jason Momoa would adapt to it,” Wan told us. “So if you think about how Jason would do it, with his odd sort of personality, I think that gives you a potential impression of what it could be. A guy that plays by his own rules and doesn’t quite belong, and does things his own way. So that kind of stuff is always fun to fantasize about what it could be.”

Much of the motivation of Patrick Wilson’s Orm/Ocean Master stems from wanting revenge on Arthur, who he blames for the death of their mother Atlanna (Nicole Kidman). However, in a third act surprise, we discover that Atlanna is, in fact, alive and has been surviving on her own in The Trench for decades. When she reappears after Arthur defeats Orm in battle, you can see much of Orm’s anger dissipate. We asked Wilson how long he thinks Orm’smellow is going to last, and if he could potentially become an ally to Arthur the way Loki is (occasionally) to Thor in the Marvel movies?

“I see the similarity in that not unlike Loki you’ll have a guy that you can trust up to a point,” explained Wilson. “I think when someone is blood-related, and obviously both have a lot of love for their mother and you see that, and they wish that they had met under other circumstances… I think you’ll always have a very strong bond between Arthur and Orm. How that can work out, your guess is as good as mine. But I think they could work together, I do. I’m saying that as a fan, not as someone who knows something or because there are so many storylines, but because I’m sure even if you worked together, there’d be some point where it just didn’t work out again. I mean, he’s a tough one to trust, but that moment at the end is so, so, so important, and I think earned, that he has with Atlanna and with Arthur, and Arthur’s last words to him.”
