Aquaman is coming to theaters this Friday, and the hype is big for the superhero who can communicate with fish. The movie is receiving a lot of positive reviews from critics, and we really enjoyed the movie here at Nerd Reactor. (Read our review here.) James Wan is the director of the film, and he has worked on the movie for three years. In a recent interview, he talked about not wanting to think about another superhero for the time being.

“Listen, I’m trying not to think about other comic book characters right now,” Wan tells Nerd Reactor. “I’m just trying to survive this one… this guy. I’ve spent three years working on Aquaman, I’m kind of comic-booked out at this point. Superheroed out. [laughs] I do not want to think about another superhero character at this particular juncture.”

Three years is a lot for a project, and we can understand the feeling of not wanting to do another in the same realm while you’re trying to finish up with the current one. Does this mean we won’t get to see Wan take on a very dark and scary Batman film? Perhaps one with Scarecrow calling the shots? Either way, whatever project he does decide to direct next, fans are sure to be excited.

Aquaman synopsis: Once home to the most advanced civilization on Earth, the city of Atlantis is now an underwater kingdom ruled by the power-hungry King Orm. With a vast army at his disposal, Orm plans to conquer the remaining oceanic people — and then the surface world. Standing in his way is Aquaman, Orm’s half-human, half-Atlantean brother and true heir to the throne. With help from royal counselor Vulko, Aquaman must retrieve the legendary Trident of Atlan and embrace his destiny as protector of the deep.

Aquaman hits theaters on December 21, 2019.
