Guy Ritchie’s Toff Guys casts Hugh Grant in supporting role
Hugh Grant has been tapped to play a British tabloid reporter in the upcoming Toff Guys, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Director Guy Ritchie’s upcoming film has already landed such noteworthy performers as Matthew McConaughey (White Boy Rick, True Detective) and Kate Beckinsale (Pearl Harbor, the Underworld franchise).
Toff Guys will explore the collision between old money European wealth and the modern marijuana industrial complex with new gang entrants swarming. Ritchie’s signature visual cocktail will be served with an abundance of fun. Ritchie wrote the script with Marn Davies and Ivan Atkinson.
Ritchie is currently in post-production on the live-action adaptation of Disney’s Aladdin starring Billy Magnussen, Will Smith, and Naomi Scott. His last film, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, was a costly misfire that grossed just $148 million worldwide on a $175 million budget. Still, the director’s Sherlock Holmes films were sizable hits, while his early work, namely Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels remain minor classics.
Grant most recently appeared as the big bad in this year’s Paddington 2, which was earned him praise for his portrayal of a washed-up entertainer.
Production for Toff Guys is set to begin sometime this fall. The movie will film in England.
