David Lowery reteaming with A24 for Green Knight
Deadline reports that The Old Man and the Gun director David Lowery will be teaming up with acclaimed independent production company A24 again for the upcoming fantasy epic Green Knight.

Lowery previously worked with A24 on the 2017 supernatural drama A Ghost Story starring Casey Affleck (The Old Man and the Gun) and Rooney Mara (Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot), which received rave reviews from critics for its unique take on grief, love and loss and was a modest box office success, grossing nearly $2 million on a $100,000 budget.
Green Knight will be a retelling of the classic tale “Sir Gawain and the Green Knight,” which follows Sir Gawain from King Arthur’s round table as he accepts the challenge to behead the titular knight provided he receive the same hit a year and a day later. Despite some later hesitation from Gawain, he ultimately accepted the returning blow in order to honor the deal and remain chivalrous and loyal to the king. The story was adapted into film twice before by Stephen Weeks, the first of which starred Nigel Green (Jason and the Argonauts) as the Green Knight and the second of which starred Sean Connery (From Russia With Love) as the titular knight.

Lowery will be producing the project Toby Halbrooks (Pete’s Dragon) and James M. Johnston (A Ghost Story). The 37-year-old director has been behind the camera on multiple acclaimed indies, including his debut Ain’t Them Bodies Saints, A Ghost Story and this year’s crime comedy The Old Man & the Gun, which was also Robert Redford’s final film before retirement and Redford and Affleck”s second and third times working with Lowery after Affleck starred in Saints and Ghost and Redford starred in the 2016 remake of Pete’s Dragon.
