Legendary developing live-action My Hero Academia film

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Legendary Pictures is developing a live action film based on the Manga series My Hero Academia.

The outlet describes the series as taking place “in a world where 80 percent of people have developed powers, known as quirks. One boy, who has no quirks of his own, obsessively follows the heroes who have emerged, though not everyone uses their powers for good. Although he has no powers of his own, the boy risks his life to save his friend, earning him attention from the world’s greatest hero.”

Alex Garcia and Jay Ashenfelter will oversee the adaptation for Legendary, while Ryosuke Yoritomi will oversee for Shueisha, the publishing company that produces the manga.

My Hero Academia was created by Kohei Horikoshi in 2014, and has since produced 17 million copies, spawned an animated series, and even an animated film, My Hero Academia: Two Heroes, which released this year.

Robert Rodriguez’s long-in-development Alita: Battle Angel is the next live-action manga series hitting theaters on Feb. 14, 2019.
