The Dresden Files might be headed to the small screen, per a report from Deadline. Jim Butcher’s long-running fantasy series about Harry Dresden, a private investigator and wizard, has been optioned for development by Fox21.

Ileen Maisel, who has a first-look deal with Fox 21, will be producing the project with Temple Hill Entertainment, with John Fischer and Julie Waters overseeing.

This marks the second small-screen adaptation of Butcher’s novels. The first was the short-lived series on what was then the Sci-Fi Channel (now SYFY), that starred Paul Blackthorne as the titular private investigator/wizard. It ran for 12-episodes back in 2007.

The world of The Dresden Files is set in present-day Chicago, where magic, vampires, demons, spirits, faeries, werewolves all walk among us. As the series progresses, Dresden starts to realize his individual cases might have a common thread, and begins to face off against bigger and bigger threats while he tries to protect the general public.

The series began with 2000’s Storm Front, and have consistently made it to the New York Times Best Sellers list. The most recent 15th book in the series, Skin Game, was published in 2014. To this date, the franchise has sold millions of copies in 29 countries around the world.
