The Deuce Season 2 Episode 1 Recap
The first season of HBO’s The Deuce had Eileen transitioning from prostitution to pornography, and Vincent was running businesses for mobster Rudy Pipilo. The Deuce season 2 Episode 1 picked up five years later, and business was booming.
The Road to an Orgasm
Eileen had been doing well in the porn industry. While she still worked for Harvey, she edited also film and managed the set. She still worked on camera as a porn actress, but she was now a star in the genre. Harvey had lost weight and gotten married, but he was still very much the same. When Eileen tried to edit a movie from the female perspective, he reminded her that men don’t care about that. However, he compromised with her, admitting she had good pacing, and she took his direction.
The Piece
Frankie and Vincent’s relationship hadn’t changed much. Frankie ran Show Land, a peep show establishment with real women instead of videos. He took all the money from the safe there. Vincent spent the episode tracking him down while picking up Pipilo’s take at each establishment. In the end, Frankie came into the disco Vincent ran with his new wife Christina, a porn actress missing from Eileen’s set. Frankie used the money to buy her a ring, and they got married.
Vincent and Abby were still together. Abby now ran the Hi Hat and booked punk bands to play there. She was also running a fundraiser to help a stripper who organized a walkout, and she offered her a job at the bar. Show Land had been light on the take, and the assumption seemed to be that Frankie was skimming. But it turned out one of the booths was missing Plexiglas, and customers were tipping the women directly.
Diversify
The pimps were adjusting to their new roles managing porn actresses. C.C. tricked a director into shelling out more money for Lori and was upcharging men who wanted to sleep with her. While Darlene was still with Larry and making movies, she had secretly gotten her G.E.D. and was taking a night class. Leon, the owner of the diner, was getting out of prison soon for killing Reggie Love, angering Rodney since he felt it sent the wrong message.

Alston was now a detective, and he had married a nurse. He was called to investigate a murder of a tourist. Gene Goldman from the mayor-elect’s office approached him while he was at the murder scene. He was involved in the Midtown Enforcement Project. Mayor-Elect Koch was making Times Square area a priority for clean up. Alston wryly commented that others had tried before him. After Goldman’s departure, Alston headed into a hotel across the street. It was filled with prostitutes. The man had been there the night before and gotten into a fight with one of them.
