First look at Seth Rogen’s The Boys

The live adaptation of Garth Ennis’ ‘The Boys’ has wrapped filming its first season in Toronto. The Boys will be an Amazon Studios production with Eric Kripke, Evan Goldberg, and Seth Rogen developing the series for the studio. The Boys is set to release in 2019 and we now get the first promo image of the upcoming show.

If you’re familiar with the comic book series by Garth Ennis, then you’ll realize that the first official poster looks very familiar. Reason being is that they have perfectly recreated the cover of the very first issue of The Boys that was released in 2006. Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen have successfully adapted Garth Ennis other comic books ‘Preacher’ with wild success for AMC networks. Wrapping up its third season, Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen delivered a show that’s not only interesting but has a perfect balance of comedy and violence. So with The Boys under their wing, we can just about expect the same quality for the upcoming Amazon Prime show, but this time, it will probably have more blood and violence.

The Boys was first published by DC/Wildstorm back in 2006, but after the first six issues, it moved over to Dynamite Entertainment. The Boys continued to produce 72 issues, closing up publication in 2012. The Boys follows a feeble character named Hughie “Wee” Campbell, who lives in a world filled with superheroes. The superheroes in his time are reckless and often bask in their popularity filling most of their time with sex, drugs, and alcohol. When Hughie’s girlfriend is accidentally killed by a superhero, it leads him to be recruited by Billy Butcher the head of a black ops organization called ‘The Boys,’ Who’s one job is to police the out of line superheroes using any means necessary.

Karl Urban (Dredd, Star Trek) will helm the role of bad-ass Billy Butcher, Jack Quaid (Hunger games, Rampage) will play Hughie Campbell. Joining Karl and Jack will be Elisabeth Shue, Erin Moriarty, Anthony Starr, Dominique McElligott, Chace Crawford, Laz Alonso, and Jennifer Esposito.

Amazon has been on a winning streak with some of their original shows. With Jack Ryan, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and The Man in the High Castle all receiving positive reviews, it looks like The Boys adaptation will be in good hands.
