Ewin Flash XL Gaming Chair Review: Crafted for the Big and Tall

In case you haven’t paid attention to the gaming chair market, it has exploded. Competition has woken up the gaming community to venture out to other brands. Since there are so many companies like Respawn, Noblechairs, and DXRacer, it can be difficult to find a trustworthy one. Today I am taking a closer look at Ewin, a company dedicated to bringing you a quality PC gaming chair for cheaper. They have several different options to choose from, but I got time with the Ewin Flash XL, a chair for the big & tall.

Setup

Setting up the Flash XL was simple. I do recommend getting a friend to help since it’s a hefty chair. Since most of the chair is assembled when you receive it, setup time should be about 15 minutes. The wheels, aluminum base, and gas lift just slide on like most chairs these days. The armrests came pre-attached, so all I needed to screw on was the tilt mechanism and backrest. The lumbar and headrest pillows are also clipped on when you receive it.

Build and Quality

Starting with how it looks, it seems fairly generic. This is not so much the case when you get up close and personal with the Flash XL. Ewin has 3 color options: red & black, blue & black, and grey & black. The PU leather is of a high quality, and it feels smooth and doesn’t stick to your clothes or skin. It is a thick cut which provides a premium feel too. Similar to most chairs on the market, it is a solid cut of leather, so the chair can build up heat after some time. This is especially the case for the big and tall. Some better ventilation is something I would have liked to see.

The shape of the backrest supports the curve of the back, while the base cushion is a total of 24.4in in length. I am 6’4″ and find that the extra length of the base cushion reaches to just behind my knee. The extra support helped my back since I had more of that weight transferred from my back to the chair. The foam padding is the perfect line between too hard and too soft. I also doubt that time will take its toll on the foam. The high-density foam should hold its firmness for longer than some of their competitors.

The lumbar pillow has the same high-density foam and is easily movable for those that might need support on a different part of the back. The headrest pillow is filled with more of a cotton stuffing, rather than the high-density foam. This is likely because the neck doesn’t need such a firm headrest. Both pillows sport the Ewin branding, which is also located on the front and back of the headrest of the chair.

The backrest is easily adjustable with a pull lever on the right side. It leans as far back as 155 degrees for those of you who live dangerously. The Flash XL has a 120MM class-4 gas lift that will hold up to 330lbs. When you add in the steel and aluminum frame, you end up with one strong chair. I never felt as though the chair had any issues with holding my weight.

The tilt mechanism is fairly typical in reference to its ability to swivel and tilt, but the placement in conjunction to the seat base seems a bit far back. This just means that you will have to lean further back in order for the chair to tilt as well. Since this chair is for the big and tall, a major improvement is the heights it can reach. Keeping my height in mind, my feet just meet the floor at the lowest position. This is crucial for proper ergonomics among people my size.

The wheels of the Ewin Flash XL are almost double the size of a normal chair. This allows for an easier roll that will require less effort to adjust. The armrests are 3D as well. This means you can adjust the height, width, and angle of the armrests. There really isn’t any position that it cannot do.

Final Reaction

The Ewin Flash XL is a comfortable, durable, and strong gaming chair that will endure the abuse of gaming for hours, day in and day out. Since this chair is intended for the big and tall, I would only recommend this chair to those who are at least 6-feet tall. For everyone else, Ewin does have more options on its website. The Flash XL is on sale now for $449, which is a typical price point for these types of chairs but adds additional quality. Ewin is definitely a trustworthy company and worth considering when you purchase your next gaming chair.

Score: 4/5
