NickSplat comes to VRV

For those of you who are old enough to remember, in the 1990s Nickelodeon had some of the best programming available for children. It was like the golden age of cartoons and children’s shows that still resonates with today. Kids like me rushed home as fast as we can to try and catch some of our favorite shows, but those shows are now long and gone, but definitely not forgotten.

Streaming service VRV has partnered up with Nickelodeon to become the premier launch partner for NickSplat, available as an OTT channel that premieres on VRV starting today. Nickelodeon has closely worked with VRV to create a NickSplat branded streaming channel that has a selection of 30 shows from Nickelodeon’s history.

Eric Berman, head of content partnerships for VRV and Ellation said:

“Using the VRV platform, our goal is to empower both traditional media and popular digital brands to launch or extend their OTT channel presence, Our partnership with Viacom is a first of its kind. We’re very proud to be the premiere launch partner to bring a NickSplat channel into SVOD and share these nostalgic series so our passionate audience can fall in love with them all over again.”

To celebrate the channel launch, NickSplat and VRV are taking “childhooding” on tour. Beginning in Santa Monica on September 7th, VRV will have a series of experimental events that attendees will be able to enjoy including nostalgic cartoons, cereal bar, and a ’90s-themed photoactivation and more. Additional events will be announced later in the year.

To bring the nostalgia NickSplat and VRV have curated a list of shows that showcase some of Nickelodeon’s best programming. Those include “AAAHH!!! Real Monsters,” “All That,” “Are You Afraid of the Dark?,” “CatDog,” “Clarissa Explains It All,” “Doug,” “Kenan & Kel,” “Legends of the Hidden Temple,” “Rocko’s Modern Life,” “The Angry Beavers” and “The Wild Thornberrys,” with more shows added on a later date. NickSplat will be available to purchase a la carte for $5.99 per month and will also be included on VRV’s premium bundle for $9.99 per month.

As someone who grew up in the ’90s, I remember vividly watching a lot of Nickelodeon’s programming. To be able to watch Nickelodeon’s older shows today, you would either need to wait until other streaming services like Netflix or Hulu stream them or buy a DVD box set. VRV and NickSplat are giving us fans the opportunity to no longer wait because these shows are the ones that paved the way for today’s cartoons. It gives us, the ones who grew up on them, the chance to walk down memory lane and share these shows with today’s younger generation.
