NBA2K is the dominating the basketball video game scene. And no other basketball video game is even close to matching the relevance of NBA2K. This domination has spread to the recently booming competitive e-sports arena. With that said, network television is starting to make room on their daily programming lineups for video game competitions. The world is starting to move in a direction where athletes are not only the ones that can run the fastest or jump the highest, but also those that dominate the virtual court. Large companies and celebrities are backing these e-sports teams, with NBA2K teams directly operated by their NBA team counterparts.
NBA2K League has hit the end of its inaugural season with the finals taking place on Saturday, August 25. It was a 17-week season which began on May 1st. 17 teams competed this season and now we are down to the final two: Heat Check Gaming vs. Knicks Gaming. The champion will take home $300,000, while the runner-up takes $100,000, in a best of 3 finals.
It all goes down live on Twitch on Saturday, August 25.

The trophy is two feet tall, weighs 25 pounds and is made of polyurethane resin and finished with rhodium and 24-karat gold plating.
Next year, look out for an even larger NBA2K League with 4 new NBA teams joining the fray for the 2019 season. NBA2KL will welcome Atlanta Hawks, Brooklyn Nets, Los Angeles Lakers, and the Minnesota Timberwolves, bringing the total number of teams to 21.
Also available soon is NBA2K19: The Prelude. If you played last year’s prelude, then this should be familiar to you as an introduction to the storyline that will unfold in NBA2K19’s story mode. This is available starting August 31 via PS4 and Xbox One.
